A Thanksgiving poem, in free verse.

St Charles of Thanksgiving the patron saint of the forgotten holiday presents A Thanksgiving poem, in free verse.

Give me your turkey, your stuffing
Your extended family yearning for free food
Refuse thy retail temptations
On this most holy day of feasting
and football
and beer

While today ushers in the great holiday season
Let us not forget the reason we gather together
and it’s not for great prices
deep discounts
or doorbusters

Breaking bread with thy family
is rare enough these days
Today is the day
to stop and take a breath
and relax

Let not the retailers
steal the reason we gather today
Look around you
These are the people for which you’re shopping
Let it wait until tomorrow

Today is Thanksgiving.
