This is a Now page, and if you have your own site, you should make one, too.
Fall 2024
My most recent take on my Now page is inspired by Andy’s Working Notes and is generally a reverse order summary of notable events in my life over the last few months (or so).
I started updating my ‘Now’ page quarterly instead of monthly. I hope to change that soon.
Here it is, the end of September 2024 and the beginning on my month was jam packed with doctor’s appointments. I had a suspicious mole removed from my back (10 stitches!), a sixth (sixth!) clear cystoscopy (back in a year), good and bad news from the gastroenterologist (good: my liver is doing well, bad: I’m gaining weight again) and a nice visit to the dentist (no cavities!).
We’re prepping for our fourth trip to Salem at the end of the month. After our first trip during the week of Halloween 2018 (which I’m still so glad we did!) we decided to start visiting at the beginning of Haunted Happenings, rather the immensely popular end of the month.
I’ve gone back to writing in a notebook. A whole slew of them. I have a bookshelf where I keep my old notebooks and discovered that I have 5 completely unused notebooks and 7 partially-used notebooks. I’m starting with the partially-used.
Colored gel pens and poor handwriting from 25 years of typing at a keyboard are making these notebooks a glorious, messy experiment that has awakened something in me years dormant. I like to write!
It seems antithetical to be beaming about handwriting and notebooks in a blog on the internet, but I’m hardly alone. I probably won’t join the ranks of the stationary-obsessed with piles of notebooks and stacks of fountain pens, but I have re-discovered a joy from years ago and a little indulgence is always good.
Besides, writing is good for you.
