I’m making myself write this because if I don’t, I’m afraid that I may forget how to write altogether.
The last few weeks have been weird. The apartment complex we live in got sold to new owners who are changing some of the rules (especially with the rent). We were notified by letters placed in front of our doors on a late Sunday afternoon. If you are familiar with how easy it is to misunderstand someone’s intention in writing then you can appreciate what kind of start this was for my week. Later that evening I called the landlord and got some real answers before I drove myself crazy.
Work is sending me to school for .NET starting this week. I’m excited to be learning something new but worried about my ability to sit still for more than an hour at a time. And what about lunch? Do I need a new notebook? I’m no high-school student anymore.
Speaking of work, Websense unblocked my web page after they reviewed the comment I sent them. Their explanation was that somebody on my virtual server (GoDaddy?) was hosting an adult site “which caused an unintended overblock”. I still don’t think Websense categorizes sites correctly, but at least they’re prompt when they goof.
About a week ago I got a hold of a new 10’ printer cable for the computer at home (because the one we had was only 3’) After moving the computer around to replace the cable I decided to open it up and blow out the dust bunnies with some compressed air. While I was sitting there looking at the inside of the computer I decided to once again install a spare hard drive and give Linux another try. They say the 17th time is the charm. (don’t they?) Ubuntu is the flavor of choice this time and is being used to post this entry.
Does anybody know their way around a wiki? I’ve installed WikkaWiki 5 times on 3 different machines this past week and might have convinced my boss to give it a chance for creating and maintaining our in-house knowledge base. I’m so excited about the potential for something like this that I installed a copy on this server. But I don’t know what to fill it up with. Any suggestions?
What else? Oh, yeah… the fish that Ashley won at that fair finally died. She wasn’t bothered much because we had long since taken over the care and feeding of Nemo. Funeral services were held toilet-side. It was beautiful.
We took Ashley to her 7th-grade orientation the other night but decided not to stay for the “internet safety presentation” because the handouts they gave us beforehand were horribly out of date. I think I’ll teach Ashley about internet safety, thank you.
I think that’s mostly everything. Coming up next Friday we’re planning on working St Patrick’s Day at the Legion again, so maybe there will be some pictures.
Lastly, that weird rash on my hands is clearing up. I think my dermatologist is a witch. A good witch, like Glinda.
P.S. What’s with the post title, O RLY? It’s ‘cause I really like this picture.
