This is a Now page, and if you have your own site, you should make one, too.

July 2026

I went back to Markdown for my notes again. This time I migrated out of Google Drive after having a hard time formatting technical notes with code snippets. I also found that some of my favorite Google Doc extensions either went pay-only, or are no longer supported. This is the exact thing I preach about when I evangelize plain-text. No worry about vendor lock-in and no issues with the tools you use suddenly going away.

Since I migrated my notes, I decided to migrate my WordPress blog to Hugo. I’m not shy about saying that I used AI to help convert my existing posts from WordPress to Hugo formatting. It was a huge time-saver!

I bought an RX 580 video card from Facebook Marketplace to put in my desktop Kubuntu machine. Now I can play my old-school FPS Steam games and Grim Dawn (which I picked up from the Summer Steam Sale!), and even dabble with ollama locally!

I read three books this month:

I spun up some new apps in the home-lab:

  • Readeck (for article saving/reading)
  • Moodist (for ambient background noise)

The garden at work is finally starting to bear fruit. I’ve harvested a few green peppers and tomatoes so far, with plenty more ripening on the vines.

We celebrate Shark Week in this house. Seasonal movies include: Jaws (1 - 4), Deep Blue Sea, The Meg (1 - 2), Under Paris, and all the Sharknado movies. We’re looking forward to checking out The Devil’s Mouth this weekend.

My latest cystoscopy screening was clear! I don’t have to go back until November, which means spooky season is back on menu this year. Halloween starts in August, of course.

Lastly, I’m trying to keep up with my daily walking regimen and trying to lose this last stubborn 30 pounds.

My take on my Now page is inspired by Andy’s Working Notes and is generally a reverse order summary of notable events in my life over the last few months (or so).
